What are people’s thoughts as to including the reactor temperature in an FCC DMC controller as an MV, rather than as a CV?
Historically we have had very good control of the reactor temperature using a simple PI controller, to the reactor slide valve. The loop is relatively fast, similar dynamics to a furnace COT, and copes well with disturbances in feed rate and feed temperature. I believe that if the unit is partial burn there are concerns about the regenerator temperature becoming a ramp variable, but in our full burn unit I don’t think that this is the case. I do anticipate slide valve delta pressure being a constraint reasonably frequently, would this be enough of a reason to break the loop and include the slide valve as the MV and reactor temperature as a CV, in our proposed FCC DMC?
Any thoughts/experiences would be gratefully received.
