Power / Steam Generation Plant Control / Optimization

Could anyone comment on their experience with applying control / optimization software to Power stations or Steam Generation facilities? Specifically it would be useful to know what software was used, and what ultimately was accomplished. In plants connected to refineries, part of the system will involve switching turbines, etc... to manage the steam header balance. For these cases, the system can only "recommend" that certain actions be taken. Any discussion here would be welcomed.
